With a flick of her wrist and a spin of the deck, DJ Cozzy is taking the music world by storm.

This young talented artist has risen from humble beginnings to become one of the most sought-after DJs on the circuit known for her unique sound, captivating stage presence and unwavering dedication to her craft.

Born Onalenna Mathebe in Johannesburg and raised in Mamelodi, she was inspired by her father at an early age. He was also in the entertainment industry.

“After he passed away I was always listening to his music and that made me fall in love with music, and after noticing that music is my therapy it led me to being a dancer and also a DJ,” she said.

She added that she already had a lot of following on social media and people started booking her as a host at their events and getting small businesses to promote what they are selling.

“I promoted for clothing brands and sneakers as well as skin products,” she added.

Speaking to Pretoria News about her memorable moment, Mathebe said it was when she got a gig in Vaal and got paid R4000 just to play for five minutes, as well as when she did 23 shows with popular DJ Gogo Skhotheni.

“It was my third month as a DJ and a second month for Gogo Skhotheni, but we took the musical scene by storm,” she said.

Mathebe said she is working on releasing her own music with her team and fans should look out for nice electrifying music.

“I have a lined up crazy gig guide coming people should check all social media platforms and I have a tour in Ethiopia that is also coming up in September,” she said.

She said her story telling through music during her set, starts with playing emotional songs to love songs and after making sure that people dance throughout.

“I always make sure that my fans dance through out, I leave the energy at the climax for people to remember me by,” she said.

She further highlighted the challenges she faced in a male dominated industry.

“I have had experiences where others who are already in industry wanted to sleep with me for them to get me gigs. I was lucky because I had a team who advised me on that,” she said.

She said she would advise women that want to enter in the industry to fall in love with DJing before thinking about making money and being at the top.

“You must always practice your DJing skills regularly and seek out feedback from other DJs and music professionals,” she said.
