Tazmin Brits scored a brilliant unbeaten 56 to help the Proteas Women seal a nailbiting 10-run win over Pakistan to take a 1-0 lead in their three match T20I series on Monday.

The game was played at the Multan Cricket Stadium, and is being used to put in the final touches ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Batting first, the Proteas lost regular wickets during their innings, but Brits was the anchor against a good Pakistan bowling attack.

After finding themselves in trouble at 41/3, Brits was joined in the middle by Sune Luus, and their 63-run partnership saw the team to a healthy total.

After their 20 overs, South Africa set Pakistan a total of 133 to win.

Like the Proteas, the Pakistan innings got off to a rocky start, and they lost regular wickets as Tumi Sekhukhune and Marizanne Kaap proved to be a thorn in their side.

But it was game on when Aliya Riaz and captain Fatima Sana came together for the sixth wicket and put on a partnership of 75 from 45 balls.

In the final over, bowled by Ayabonga Khaka, Pakistan needed 30 runs to win. Despite a number of big hits that cleared the ropes, it was not enough as Pakistan fell short in the end to hand South Africa the win by 10 runs.
