Dale Steyn on Sunday revealed his favourite fast bowling action of all time.

It did not come as a massive surprise that he picked Proteas legend Allan Donald as his favourite.

Steyn, 41, could have easily gone with his own bowling action but instead went for White Lightning.

Donald made his debut for South Africa in 1991 and played his final match for the Proteas in 2003.

It meant the pair did not ever feature in the same Proteas team together, with Steyn representing South Africa from 2004 to 2020.

Steyn started the conversation on X, when he said: “The most beautiful fast bowlers action of all time…?”

I’ll start. Allan Donald.”

Donald, now aged 57, was widely regarded as having one of the greatest actions of all time. In total, the fiery quick played 72 Tests and 164 One-Day International (ODIs) before he hung up his boots.

For many years, Donald held the top spot for most Test wickets for South Africa with his haul of 330 victims.

Since he retired, he was overtaken by Makhaya Ntini (390), Shaun Pollock (421) and Steyn (439) for most Proteas Test wickets.

For comparison, the 29-year-old Kagiso Rabada, stands on 299 Test wickets from just 64 matches.

Steyn also went on to mention Mfuneko Ngam. Though he only played three Tests for the Proteas in a career plagued by injury, Ngam had a beautiful bowling action. In fact, when he burst onto the scene in 2000 immediate comparisons were drawn between his action and that of Donald.

“You all remember Mfuneko Ngam? Beautiful and so easy on the eye,” said Steyn.
