A new exciting list of eSports has been added to the Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) mix for 2022.

MSSA is a non profit association, is an affiliate of the International eSports Federation and the International Wargames Federation. Esports refers to a form of competing that uses video games

This year, the organisation has introduced several titles to the mix, including Call of Duty Mobile, CS GO, League of Legends, Street Fighter and FIFA 22.

According to the president of MSSA, Colin Webster, the growth of eSports starts at school level. Webster said that schools are the breeding ground where champions are fashioned by schools that have the interest of learners at heart.

In a statement, MSSA said the Protea eSports Team that participated in the International eSports Federation's 11th World Championships in Seoul in 2019 were all learners in 2019.

“it was unusual for the entire Protea team to consist of learners, it is not unusual to find a portion of such teams to be learners. Team selection underpins Mind Sports South Africa's faith in promoting learners into the upper echelons and giving as many players as possible the chance to excel at the highest levels,” said Webster.

According to the statement, the MSSA's school championships and leagues run strictly in adherence to the laws in South Africa and take into account the physical and mental health of the participants.

The statement further state that MSSA is responsible for the good governance and promotion of historical figure games (also known as wargames), Board games (such as Diplomacy, Checkers, Draughts, Morabaraba, Sport Stacking, etc), Card Gaming, Robotics, and eSports (whether they are played on ‘cell phones, Sony® PSP’s, personal computers or similar).

“All games are played under acceptable supervision to prohibit unsavoury practices. As a result, age restrictions are enforced much to the chagrin of a number of recreational gamers. It must always be remembered that games exist within society's norms,” concluded Webster.
