Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau will reportedly be available for free at the end of the season after reports emerged from Egypt that Al Ahly will not be renewing his contract.

Tau is contracted until June of next year. However, his age, declining abilities and salary demands have leg to the Egyptian giants deciding not to offer him new terms.

According to Cairo24, Al Ahly are said to be looking at younger alternatives to fill his foreign player spot.

Tau, who moved to Egypt from Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, has come under increasing pressure over the last year due to his form.

He was pilloried during the Africa Cup of Nations, where his performances for Bafana were deemed to be poor. And despite rare glimpses of his old self in the colours of the Red Devils, he’s no longer a first team regular.

Last month, he was dropped from Bafana’s squad for Afcon qualifiers, and last week, he asked head coach Hugo Broos to be left out for their upcoming games.

Who will sign Percy Tau?

Should he leave Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns would be the obvious destination. Before moving abroad, Tau proved to be a nightmare for defenders in the PSL, and was a key player as the Brazilians won the CAF Champions League in 2016.

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are also admirers of the 30-year-old Tau, and have been keeping tabs on his situation.

Another option could see Tau reunited with Rulani Mokwena, who is currently the head coach of Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
