The car accident that saw Lebogang Manyama’s vehicle being smashed this week will keep the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder sidelined for up to six weeks.

Chiefs announced on Thursday that Manyama has sustained a fractured elbow, and won’t be able to play over the next few weeks.

The incident on Tuesday afternoon saw three other cars involved on the N1 North after the Malibongwe Interchange, and pictures on social media showed Manyama – who was on his way home in his BMW from Chiefs training – with bandages on his right elbow and leg.

It comes as a huge blow to the Amakhosi ahead of Sunday’s Telkom Knockout last-16 clash against Black Leopards at the FNB Stadium (3.30pm).

Chiefs are chasing their first trophy in four seasons after a barren run under Steve Komphela, and Italian coach Giovanni Solinas will hope to clinch the Telkom Knockout after missing out on the MTN8, where his team lost in the semi-finals.

Manyama will now also sit out the big Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, and possibly further matches in November against Black Leopards and Chippa United.

“Lebo went through MRI scans yesterday, and that revealed a fractured elbow. He will accordingly be treated and be put under a recovery plan,” Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner said on the Chiefs website on Thursday.

Apart from Manyama, Khama Billiat is also a doubt for Sunday’s clash after picking up a back injury on international duty for Zimbabwe, and he will be assessed further.

Chiefs added that Leonardo Castro and Dax Andrianarimanana are still not ready to play, while Joseph Molangoane is off crutches and is busy with his rehab.
