Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy is in self-isolation after a family member was tested for coronavirus.

The defender, 25, will stay away from training until handed the all-clear after the relative reported respiratory problems and was taken to hospital.

Paramedics arrived at Mendy’s home in Cheshire yesterday.

The incident is believed to have taken place after training, in which Mendy took part.

The France international is self-isolating as a precaution until the results of the Covid-19 test are available.

It represents a scare for the Premier League champions, who are scheduled to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

A City spokesperson said: ‘The club can confirm that a family member of a men’s team player is in hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness.

‘The individual has undergone tests at hospital, one of which is for Covid-19. Until the results are known, the player in question is self-isolating as a precaution.’

City’s league match against Arsenal last Wednesday and their upcoming Champions League clash with Real Madrid have already been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
