Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare has explained his decision to join Sekhukhune United following his departure from the Soweto giants.

The 35-year-old, who reportedly had several suitors after his release from the Buccaneers, stated that he chose Sekhukhune due to the club's ambitious goals.

"The brand of the club and its ambitions attracted me. They are focused on moving forward, and the players they have already brought in reflect that," Monare told Nkuleleko Media Group.

Monare also mentioned his conversations with former Pirates teammate Linda Mntambo, who had also left the Soweto giants to join the Limpopo-based outfit.

"Linda Mntambo is a friend of mine, and we often discussed how things were going at our respective clubs, even while I was still with Orlando Pirates. Through those conversations, I learned that Sekhukhune is very ambitious.

“The club's aspirations align with my own goals and work ethic, and I see it as a fitting place for my future,” Monare said.

Monare has quickly become an important part of Sekhukhune United, featuring in all three of their matches this season. His contributions in midfield have been instrumental in helping the team achieve a solid start to the new campaign.

The Limpopo-based outfit are currently in fourth place in the Betway Premiership, only behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Sekhukhune United will face KwaZulu-Natal outfit Richards Bay FC in the Carling Cup and will look to impress in the competition as well.
