Golden Arrows were involved in a second five-goal thriller in the Betway Premiership this week when they beat Cape Town City at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale on Sunday afternoon, while Stellenbosch FC left their game against Orlando Pirates with all three points.

Like they did earlier this week, Mabhuti Khenyeza’s men were on the winning side as they claimed a famous 3-2 victory against the Capetonians.

Having been 2-0 up at the break following goals from Themba Mantshiyane and Ryan Moon, Abafana Be’thende took the foot off the gas in the second half, which as the opening the Citizen had been looking for.

Goals from Gabriel Amato and Amadou Soukouna saw City pull level. And with the lion’s share of the ball possession, you would have thought they had enough to go on and win the game.

However, things wouldn’t go City’s way as Nqobeko Dlamini popped up with a crucial goal that put the home side back in front.

Despite being on the back foot for much of the game, Arrows were able to hold on for the win, which saw them up to fifth in the league.

At the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Orlando Pirates suffered their first loss of the season when they were beaten 1-0 by Stellenbosch FC.

Jose Riveiro’s men went into the game looking to move back to the top of the league, but the men from the Cape Winelands had other ideas. Devin Titus, after being played through on goal by Ashley Cupido, slid the ball past Sipho Chaine to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

Pirates reacted immediately as they looked to get back into the game, but Stellies’ defence remained resolute and stopped the Buccaneers from scoring an equaliser.

Pirates stayed second in the league, level on points with the champions Mamelodi Sundowns, but trail on goal difference, while Stellenbosch were up to third, six points behind the front runners.
