Kaizer Chiefs are on the up, riding a wave of momentum after securing back-to-back wins in the league and the Nedbank Cup. But as any football fan knows, consistency is key to sustaining a winning run.

For Chiefs, there are three crucial elements they must keep in place to ensure they continue their charge up the standings. Here, we look at what they need to focus on when they face Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.

Playing with confidence

Confidence is the bedrock of every successful team, and it’s something Amakhosi have to maintain if they’re serious about pushing for more wins. Confidence starts with belief in their abilities — whether it’s defending a lead or chasing a goal.

The win over Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup over the weekend showed how the team could rally when they trust their system and themselves. When Chiefs play with conviction, they look a different side, especially going forward. It’s evident in the way they link up play, make bold passes, and go for goal.

But confidence isn’t just about attacking; it’s also about trusting the defense to stay solid and not panic under pressure. Chiefs need to take this winning mentality into every game, as that’s what will give them the mental edge against tough opponents.

Keep Cele available

Thabo Cele has quickly become a key player for Nabi’s men in this second half of the season, playing an integral role in the midfield and providing leadership in the center of the park.

A January arrival, the 28-year-old has provided balance, creativity, and an ability to control the tempo, which makes him a vital cog in Chiefs’ tactical setup. Keeping Cele fit and available is crucial, as his presence helps Chiefs dictate games and create opportunities from midfield.

With Cele in the lineup, Chiefs look more composed, and his link-up play with the attackers is essential for building attacking moves. Nabi must ensure that Cele does play himself into suspension again or not be injured, as he’s one of the first names on the team sheet.

Keep faith in the attacking line

While Chiefs have made strides defensively, it’s their attacking prowess that has shown promise in recent games. Players like Gaston Sirino and Glody Lilepo offer the necessary firepower, but it’s the understanding between the forwards that could take them to the next level. Nabi needs to keep faith in this attacking line, despite occasional lapses or misses in front of goal.

By consistently starting the same attacking trio, Chiefs will not only build rhythm but also create a sense of continuity and understanding up front. Their partnership can improve with each game, making Chiefs even more dangerous when they transition from defense to attack.
