Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has praised the impact Gaston Sirino has had on the club since joining them from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Uruguayan playmaker joined Amakhosi after seven years with the Brazilians, where he won seven consecutive league titles as well as numerous cup titles.

At Chiefs, the 33-year-old has made an immediate impact, helping the club open the new Betway Premiership campaign with two wins from their three games.

In those games, Sirino has found the back of the net once, and had a hand in a number of Kaizer Chiefs goals.

“I think there’s a few players who are [stepping up] this season, to be honest to you and Sirino is a quality player, you can’t take it away from him,” Maart was quoted by iDiskiTimes.

“He’s making a difference in the team and we appreciate it as a team, he’s a happy person, he’s a jokey person and there are times when he’s very serious where work is work,” the skipper said.

Sirino, who has never represented his country on the international stage, has been eligible to play for Bafana Bafana for over a year.

Maart also praised the impact new strength and conditioning coach Majdi Safi has had on the team, saying: “I think what he [Majdi] wants, he puts it out clearly for everyone, for each and every player and the technical team and what he wants, we have to give it to him.”

Nasreddine Nabi’s men are back in action on Saturday when they face SuperSport United in a Carling Knockout Cup match in the capital. A week later, they face the Tshwane side again in a Betway Premiership tie.
