Rulani Mokwena’s agent has confirmed that the former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach will leave Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca at the end of the season.

Mokwena made the move to North Africa after being fired by Sundowns despite guiding the club to a seventh straight league title.

His time in Morocco has not gone according to plan as Wydad have struggled in all competitions and will finish the season without a trophy. After much speculation about his future, his agent Steve Kapelushnik has now confirmed to a Morocco's Radio Mars that Mokwena will leave the club.

“I met with President Hisham, the coach, and the technical staff, and there was mutual support between the two parties,” Kapelushnik said, according to the radio stadion.

“I clearly told the president, ’if you don’t want Rulani to stay, tell us and we’ll leave. But if you want him, let him stay until the end of the season’.

“And that was agreed upon. He will stay until the end, and then we will leave in a professional and respectful manner.

“The future is clear now. There are five matches left, and Rulani will continue until the end.”

Wydad are third in the Botola Pro 1 and trail league leaders RSB Berkane by 17 points. And on the weekend, the team were eliminated from the Throne Cup after going down 1-0 to Moghreb Tetouan.

According to reports, Orlando Pirates’ Jose Riveiro has been offered to the club to replace Mokwena. Coincidentally, Mokwena’s name has been mentioned as Riveiro’s possible successor at Pirates.

Wydad’s next assignment in the league is a Casablanca Derby clash against Raja Casablanca this coming Saturday.
