South African actress and media personality Katlego Danke described her journey on Gomora with the late icon Connie Chiume as ‘God sent’. The actress spoke at Chiume's funeral on Thursday morning at Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton, Gauteng.

The “Black Panther” star passed away last week Tuesday at Netcare Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg. Danke and Chiume starred in the “Gomora” series as mother and daughter. The series aired on Mzansi Magic weekdays and it came to an end last year in October after four seasons.

Danke was amongst the speakers to pay tribute to the legendary actress who played Mam’Sonto. She said they learned valuable lessons from her, and some of the moments they shared reminded her of things about the job that she had forgotten.

“Every day on set, although it had its challenges and struggles, also brought with it valuable lessons. That joy was linked to Mam Connie,” she said.

Danke said Connie made everyone on set feel loved, seen, and respected no matter their age, their level of experience, and what role they played.

She further hailed Chiume for the stellar job she did with her Mam’Sonto character, a villain who was involved in criminal activities, including murder. Danke said the veteran actress brought her heart and soul to that character.

She also praised the actress for her passion for her craft, children, and friends.

“You pushed boundaries every day, going home after every shoot and making sure that you arrive the next day fully prepared, regardless of your advanced age and responsibilities at home,” added Danke.

Chiume was also known for her roles on “Rhythm City”, “Soul City”, “Zone 14”, and “Mazinyo Dot Q”.
