THANDI SKADE

LIBERTY Health has refused to pay for a dancer’s admittance as an in-patient into an intensive 12-week programme at a rehabilitation hospital.

Gayle Beyer, a once-vibrant dancer with a zest for life, is now languishing at home.

The 28-year-old former dancer, who represented her country twice at world dancing championships, can’t eat, walk or talk after sustaining a traumatic brain injury following a horrific car accident in July last year.

Her doctors say the therapy could help with her speech and mobility.

But a letter sent to the family on Friday indicates that the Liberty medical scheme has rejected her admittance into the rehabilitation programme as “no evidence was presented to the scheme to justify a deviation from the standard treatment protocol for similar cases”.
