OPPOSITION parties came under repeated fire from ANC speakers during the second day of debate on President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address – with Deputy Transport Minister Jeremy Cronin accusing them of “ideological cretinism”.
In an address which took swipes at individual opposition members, Cronin was applauded from the ruling party benches as he accused the DA and others of “poorly camouflaged flip-flops” in reaction to what he termed a “bold and detailed statement of clear intent” from Zuma.
The ANC attacks followed repeated comments that Zuma had not said enough about the crises in health and education, and on corruption.
DA trade and industry spokesman Wilmot James described Zuma as “Mr Nice Guy, with a charming smile, who tries to please everyone and so fails to be the leader we need in these challenging times”.
