METRO police, the Counter Narcotics Unit and the Hawks carried out an intelligence driven operation on Wednesday to tackle the escalating drug turf wars in Phoenix

Colonel Boysie Zungu, the spokesperson for metro police, said law enforcement units, acting on vital information, executed a search warrant at a high-priority target's residence.

“The residence has been under surveillance for suspected illegal activities,” he said.

Zungu said during the operation, an individual was apprehended and now faced charges for possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“The swift and effective actions of the officers resulted in the confiscation of critical evidence, including one Norinco firearm, 17 live 9mm rounds and one magazine.”

He said the estimated value of the seized items was R10 170.

“The firearm and ammunition was secured and logged into the evidence system. This will ensure that they are off the streets and no longer pose a threat to the community. We also commend our members for a job well done," he said.
