Durban - A 27-year-old man appeared in the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court this week for allegedly killing his father.

Jagatheesan Perumal’s body was found at his home in the suburb of Cool Air, in Dalton, on Saturday morning.

Dalton police investigating the murder, arrested the son, Yubeshan Perumal.

According to Muniamma Reddy, Jagathessan Perumal’s sister, he died after sustaining gashes and wounds to his head.

“We were informed of my brother’s death by police on Sunday. Police told us he was apparently hit with a heavy object.

“The police also informed us that my nephew was arrested on charges of murder. This is shocking news to us. Everything seemed normal between father and son. My brother was divorced and his son, Yubeshan lived with him.”

Reddy said her brother was their youngest sibling and described him as a humble person.

“We are heartbroken by Baboo’s death. We are also disappointed that we found out so many hours later that he had died. We were informed by police of his death on Sunday, yet he died on Saturday.

“It’s an emotional time for us knowing our baby brother is gone. He wouldn’t harm anybody so it’s heart-breaking to learn that he died in such a terrible way,” said Reddy.

According to Reddy, her nephew had a history of abusing drugs.

The case was postponed for a bail application next week and Perumal was remanded in police custody.
