A teenager and his neighbour were arrested after they threatened to shoot the investigating officer, who opposed bail against two women who appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court today.

The women are accused of drugging and robbing an elderly Verulam man.

According to Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit South Africa, a private security company, they received a call the policeman. He said the 18-year-old male and his neighbour confronted him shortly after exiting court.

"They threatened to shoot the policeman for opposing bail for the teenager’s mother and her co-accused, who drugged and robbed a 75-year-old man in Ottawa,” said Balram.

He said the men were apprehended along Wick Street and arrested by members of Verulam SAPS.

“Reaction officers mobilised and located the two suspects matching the description provided by the police officer. They were fleeing along Wick Street in the Verulam CBD. Members immediately apprehended and restrained them."

One of the women was arrested in Chatsworth, while the other was arrested in Phoenix by Rusa officers in November. The women have since been linked to several other robbery cases with a similar modus operandi.
