Already celebrated for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, Cape Town has garnered further international acclaim and won the title of Best Beach Destination in the International Destinations Category at the Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2024.
This prestigious recognition was awarded at a glamorous gala held in New Delhi in India.
According to Cape Town Tourism, the award showcases Cape Town's breathtaking coastline, which continues to enchant travellers around the globe.
Speaking on the award, Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, expressed his enthusiasm for the timing of this accolade.
“This award is perfectly timed as we welcome visitors this summer to experience our world-class beaches. Whether you’re here for the iconic white sands of Clifton, the surfer’s paradise at Muizenberg, or a sunset picnic at Camps Bay, Cape Town’s beaches have something for everyone.
“It’s an honour to see our city recognised as a must-visit destination for beach lovers and global adventurers,” he said.
Cape Town boasts eight Blue Flag beach designations for the 2024/2025 season, including Bikini Beach, Camps Bay and Muizenberg.
The city’s beaches are notable not only for their aesthetic allure but also for their commitment to eco-friendliness and community support.
These accolades affirm the city’s dedication to maintaining high environmental standards while providing safe and enjoyable experiences for beachgoers.
Currently, plans are underway to enhance the Muizenberg Beachfront, with upgrades set to commence in mid-February 2025 and slated for completion by the end of 2026.
This revitalisation aims to improve public spaces and bolster coastal protection, ensuring the beach remains a cherished retreat for both locals and visitors.
In an ongoing commitment to sustainability and inclusivity, Cape Town Tourism is determined to preserve the natural beauty of the region for future generations.
Local beach clean-ups spearheaded by dedicated community members highlight the city's proactive approach to eco-friendly initiatives.
“We’re all about showing off the best of Cape Town while caring for what makes it so special. By embracing sustainable practices, we’re helping future generations enjoy our city’s beauty and culture just as much as we do,” said Duminy.
James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, echoed this enthusiasm, adding, Cape Town’s beaches aren’t just stunning; they’re essential to the tourism economy.
“Recognition like this puts Cape Town on the global map and invites visitors to experience the unique charm of our coastline. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or unforgettable memories, Cape Town’s beaches are waiting to give you an unforgettable summer,” said Vos.
