"The Daily Show” founder and a beloved figure in the arts and tourism industry, Joey Fourie, has died.

Friends and family members of Fourie have confirmed the untimely passing of Fourie on social media.

According to the social media posts, Fourie died on April 2 in the afternoon; his age is unclear.

Fourie was known for his kindness and ability to bring people together. He also had various music shows and recently launched a new sustainable community tourism initiative in March 2025 called Down Klipfontein.

Last week, Fourie held a tourism drive, “The Art of Possibility" that integrated history, education, culture, local food and wine as a way to also provide a cultural experience for tourists.

His dedication to providing a platform for musicians, poets, young people, other creatives and the tourism industry has been evident for the past 20 years.

Fans and family members have taken to social media to share posts and pay tribute to Fourie.

This included @Pamela Court, who wrote: “Death is a part of our lives, but this one really shocked me to my core. When I got the news this afternoon about Joey Fourie, I kept wishing that I will be told it’s incorrect info, but not so.

"We were connected by our love for tourism. He always brought it back to the music, too. I was privileged to be part of the initial brainstorming and assisted promoting 'The Daily Show'.”

“I can’t believe it. Just the other day, we shared another great musical moment and now he is no more. As certain as death is, the news just rocks one differently every time. Gonna miss you, Joey Fourie,” @Denzel Pedro Smit said.

@Ryland Fisher added, “Joey, your death came suddenly and unexpectedly. But you lived a full life and leave behind a great legacy.

"I promised you many times that I am always in your corner and I will do whatever I can to ensure that your latest project come to fruition. It is the least I can do to honour your memory.”

While @Gino Oliver commented, “I am saddened by the news of the passing of a legend, brother Joey Fourie. A visionary, an achiever and a man of integrity. Extremely passionate towards the Arts - Music and had the most contagious energy.

"You made significant contributions to the lives of others, my brother. MAXIMUM RESPECT. A BIG TREE HAS FALLEN.”
