Couple nabbed with dagga worth R150 000

Free State - A husband and wife have been arrested after they were caught in possession of dagga weighing in at more than 100 kilograms in the Free State, police said on Monday.

The 64-year-old husband and his 48-year-old wife were found with 106 kilograms of dagga valued at R150 000, in Trompsburg.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi said the incident occurred on the N1, on Sunday.

“Trompsburg Cluster Highway Patrol unit were busy with the normal stop and search duties… police officers on duty Constable April Booysen and Warrant Office Mohlouwa Mahlatsi and Roelf Visser, stopped the vehicle and requested to search it. Upon searching it, police discovered five black plastics bag full dagga.”

Hlubi said the confiscated dagga weighed about 106 kilograms and the estimated street value about R150 000.

The two were expected to appear in the Trompsburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
