Phuthaditjhaba, Free State – A 29-year-old doctor appeared briefly in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for allegedly raping a pregnant woman earlier in the week, Free State police said.
The doctor was arrested on Monday after a woman reported to police that she had been raped during a routine examination at a state hospital.
“On 27 November 2015 at about 14:30 the 29-year-old pregnant woman from Bohlokong near Bethlehem alleges that she was at the local hospital in Qwaqwa for examination when the suspect who is a doctor at the hospital raped her,” police spokesman Mmako Mophiring said.
“The incident was then reported to the hospital manager.”
The doctor is expected to apply for bail on December 7.
