Bloemfontein - Four people were killed and four others injured after a bakkie collided with a truck on the R30 near Bothaville in the Free State, paramedics said on Wednesday.

“Paramedics arrived on scene last night [Tuesday] and found the two wrecked vehicles in the veld. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision,” ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said in a statement.

“On assessment, paramedics found four lifeless males lying a few metres away from an overturned bakkie. Unfortunately all four patients had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries when they were flung from the vehicle.”

One of the four inuured people found at the scene was trapped under the bakkie, he said.

Rescue equipment was used to free the person from beneath the vehicle. The injured were then transported to hospital for treatment.
