Botshabelo - A man was beaten and killed allegedly by an angry mob in section V, Botshabelo, Free State police said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson sergeant Sinah Mpakane said it was alleged that at around 1am on Monday morning, three suspects including the deceased broke into the house and stole a Plasma TV and a cellphone. “They were unfortunately seen by the neighbour who then alerted other people. Two of the community members went to fetch the deceased from his home to the scene of house breaking. On arrival, he was positively identified by the witness,” Mpakane said.

“Community started to beat and stab Kgotso Gilbert Nkopane, 23, killing him instantly. The deceased sustained two stab wounds on the head, four on the chest and two on the stomach. No one is arrested. Because of the mob justice, the suspects will never go to court and face the law.”

Mpakane said that the police were appealing to the community members to stop taking the law into their own hands.

The community should hand over any suspect to the police, Mpakane said.
