Welkom - Two men were arrested on the R73 in Welkom with raw tobacco with an estimated value of R4 million, Free State police said on Wednesday.

Their truck was stopped at about 2.30pm on Tuesday by the Welkom Flying Squad and K9 Unit after police received a tip-off, spokeswoman Molebogeng Lechesa said.

“The police searched the truck and found more than 60 boxes of raw tobacco with an estimated value of R4m.”

The two men provided the police with documents thought to be fraudulent.

“The two suspects, aged 35 and 59, were immediately arrested and will appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court soon.”

The men were driving from the Eastern Cape to Gauteng.
