Cape Town – Emergency service ER24 said on Wednesday that a truck carrying sheep had overturned on the Raymond Mhlaba Road, Bloemfontein in the Free State, killing some of the animals.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene where they found a large truck lying on its side against the roadside barrier,” said spokesperson Russel Meiring.

When ER24 got to the scene, sheep that had survived the accident and were being transported on the back of the truck were found running around, causing a traffic jam.

“ER24 paramedics, along with members of the public, assisted in the capture of some of the sheep,” said Meiring, “Unfortunately, some of the sheep sustained fatal injuries when the truck overturned.”

Paramedics assessed the driver and found that he had escaped without injury.

Local authorities were on scene.
