Bloemfontein - A 26-year old foreign national, believed to be a drug dealer, was arrested after officers intercepted a narcotics transaction on Tuesday, Free State police said.

The man was arrested during a police operation in the Brandwag area.

“While patrolling in Mc Hardy Street they spotted a suspiciouslooking man carrying a plastic bag waiting for his client to arrive. The man was approached and when searching his bag, the police found Tik powder wrapped in seven small plastic bags with the street value of R5 000,” police spokesman Captain Chaka Marope said.

“The suspect was then escorted to his rented room at the Backpackers Guesthouse where a further search was conducted and cocaine powder sealed in 37 small plastic bags with an estimated value of R20 000 was discovered being hidden under the bed.”

Police also seized R500 in cash and seven cellphones officers believed were stolen.

The suspect was due to appear in court soon on charges of, among others, dealing in drugs and the possession of suspected stolen property.
