Bloemfontein – Two men appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for their alleged involvement in the hijacking and rape of a 28-year-old woman, Free State police said on Tuesday.

Warrant Officer Zweli Mohobeleli said Jan Napo Masilo and Teleki Andrew Setlhako, aged between 28 and 30, appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed to June 15. They were remanded in custody.

Mohobeleli said the woman and her 45-year-old male companion were surprised by a group of five men on May 30, at Phase 4 Mangaung.

“The pair had made a brief stop to allow the boyfriend to relieve himself when the suspects pounced. All five suspects then jumped into the vehicle and drove away with the female victim. Suspects stopped at an open field in Phase 4 where they took turns raping the woman before fleeing the scene,” Mohobeleli said.

A few days later the police were led to a shack where two suspects were arrested.
