Durban - Timeshare. I get it – and so do a large number of South Africans. I’ve been to a few timeshare properties and they offer great family fun and diversity. Not just in what activities and entertainments are available for holidaymakers of all ages, but also because you can, like a flexible wardrobe, dress it up or down.
You can self-cater in your holiday unit, loll about in your skivvies, or put on your glad rags for a social evening and restaurant meal.
La Côte d’Azur at Manaba Beach (Margate) on the KZN Hibiscus Coast, is one of the best.
It offers 58 luxurious sea-facing flats, with magnificent views of Margate’s main beach. These spacious, well-appointed and serviced two- and three-bedroom units offer the amenities necessary for a pleasant stay.
There are two bathrooms, a TV with selected DStv channels, a telephone and a fully fitted kitchen. There is wi-fi, efficient hairdryers (yay!) and alarm clocks. All the units are air-conditioned. You can also can take in the gentle sea breezes on your private patio with a braai area and sweeping ocean views. And there is a lift, so no problem for wheelchairs and prams.
Access to the beach is along a private walkway and there is a lovely pool area, with pools for adults and kids. Outdoor chess, board games, tennis, pool, table tennis, pool games, Jacuzzi, sauna, squash are all available. Entertainment includes karaoke, beach soccer, tennis tournaments, action cricket, bingo, bead creations and guided beach walks.
M0ms and dads can kick back while the children are entertained or in the care of a babysitter. They can also spoil themselves with a beauty treatment or one of the special massages, at the onsite beauty spa.
The French Vanilla Coffee Shop has an extensive à la carte menu and room and poolside service is available.
La Cote D’Azur is within a short distance of a multitude of eateries. For something intimate, I would recommend Burlesque with its eclectic shabby chic feel that evokes a feeling of Old World romance. Try their tapas.
Fine dining is about 20 minutes away at The Cellar Restaurant in Seapark. If you are exploring the coast, Casa Toscana in Trafalgar offers authentic Italian fare in a lovely setting. Mac Banana is somewhere in between.
