Cape Town - A third cousin of alleged 28s gang boss, Ralph Stanfield, has been killed, just hours after being released from prison.

Craig “Zebo” Stanfield, 42, was shot and killed in Valhalla Park just after 4pm on Tuesday. According to a Cape Argus source, he came under attack by rival gang members.

“Craig came out of (prison) that morning. He was facing attempted murder charges but the complainant withdrew the charges against him and he was released.

“’He was walking with a friend when two members of the Rude Boys started shooting at them and his friend ran away.

“One of the shooters came close to him and shot him several times and he died on the scene. He is also one of the (high-ranking members) of the Firm Gang and is the cousin of Ralph,” the source said.

Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, confirmed the motive appears to be gang-related and police have taken three suspects in for questioning.

“Detectives attached to our Provincial Detectives Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident. They have meanwhile taken in three suspects for questioning of which two were found in possession of firearms and ammunition.”

He said two of the suspects have been charged for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and are due to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court today.

Craig is the third relative of the Stanfield family to be murdered over the past year. On March 13, 2023, Simon Stanfield died in a hail of bullets fired at his VW Polo in Delft.

Simon was killed just two days after another alleged 28s member, Ernest McLaughan, was buried.

McLaughan was gunned down in Belhar on March 2, 2023.

Six months after the murder, Ralph and his wife Nicole Johnson were arrested by the Anti-Gang Unit, facing attempted murder charges after an alleged manhunt for a former employee who allegedly stole R1million for the couple.

Two months after their arrest, Ralph’s cousin Mogamat Noor Stanfield was shot and killed on November 4, 2023.

A large crowd gathered in Angela Road shortly after 1pm as people tried to get a glimpse of the body of the 41-year-old man who is was also the son of Colin Stanfield.

"Next to Ralph, he is one of the most high-ranking members and the only other person who would have outranked him is Bal [Johannes Abrahams],” a source said at the time.
