Cape Town - Rugby fans agree that having full capacity stadiums at international matches in South Africa is the best thing that could have happened.
It will be the first time since the Rugby World Cup that the Springboks will be playing in front of fans at home, when they take on Wales at Loftus Versfeld in the Incoming Series, starting on Saturday.
Lukretia Booysen said: “I think it is wonderful for people to be normal again. People have been wanting to get out, be amongst each other and celebrate the things they love together. Whether it is arts, sports or cultural, all these social events are the backbone of bringing communities together and people together.
“Hopefully, we can see support and investment in all of these initiatives starting once again after such a rough time for people in the sports and arts community.”
Tanya Prinsloo said: “I love rugby. I love the gees and the energy of a live game. There is nothing in the world like being in a capacity stadium with the roar of the crowd supporting our boys on the field.
“But, in saying that, I am still cautious and nervous about the thought of so many people being in such close proximity to each other. I don’t know them. I don’t know where they have been. How safe they are in their daily lives. So yes. I am weary and a bit fearful to be amongst a capacity crowd again, and should I decide to attend a game, I will be wearing a mask. At least for the time being.”
Charlton Jacobs said: “This is one of the best things that could ever happen because we have been in isolation for more than two years.
“One could see in the United Rugby Championship final between the DHL Stormers and Vodacom Bulls the effect (crowd attendance) had on the players. Crowd capacity is also a boost to the economy, better vibe in the stadium, players are much more motivated, and it brings people back together again.”
