Christmas has come a bit early for Weekend Argus readers who can win a two night stay at a luxury Cape wine estate.
The Val du Charron Wine and Leisure Estate, known for its signature views, is situated in the picturesque Bovlie, a 10 minute drive from Wellington and under an hour away from Cape Town.
In 2006, the Entwistle Family purchased the farm and re-established the winemaking tradition that started there back in 1699. The Entwistles christened the farm Val du Charron as a tribute to the rich history and culture of the area. Val du Charron means Valley of the Wagonmakers.
This was the original name of the Wellington valley. The French influence stems from the Huguenots who settled in the area in the early 1700’s while the reference to wagon making refers to the fact that Wellington was the last town where the Afrikaner’s ox wagons could be serviced before heading over the majestic Bainskloof in to the hinterland.
Steeped in a history of winemaking dating back to 1699, Val du Charron’s award winning wines are available worldwide but are best enjoyed surrounded by the vineyards at one of the estate’s restaurants or from a visitor’s balcony at the 4 star Guesthouse or 5 star Coach House suite.
Those who like to stay fit can participate in the last of the Run the Vines race series on December 16. Runners can take part in the 5km, 10km or the 20km trail runs along the Wild Boar Trails. The estate’s restaurant, the Grillroom will also be open for breakfast and Pizza Vista for coffee with the oven warming up for an earlier start to service.
The restaurant will host its traditional Christmas lunch buffet-style as well as a last hurrah for 2022 with an exclusive menu and a dinner dance party. With a limited number of seats available, revellers are advised to book early on 021873 1267.
